IMPROVING THE LEVEL OF STUDENTS` FOREIGN LANGUAGE COMPETENCE IN NON-LINGUISTIC SPECIALITIES THROUGH THE INTEGRATION OF AUDIO AND VIDEO CONTENT INTO ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING

Abstract

The integration of audio and video content into the educational process is one of the most effective ways to improve English language teaching. Audiovisual materials ensure the authenticity of the language environment, contribute the development of all types of speech activity and increase the motivational component of learning. Thanks to multimedia technologies students have the opportunity to interact with the living language, hear different accents and intonation patterns, observe non-verbal means of communication and immerse themselves in real communicative situations. The use of audio and video content has a positive effect on the development of listening skills, as it provides regular practice in perceiving authentic speech. Films, podcasts, interviews, reports and educational video lectures create conditions for working with different types of discourse – from everyday to professionally oriented. This contributes to the expansion of vocabulary, consolidation of grammatical structures and the formation of context comprehension skills. It has been proven that integrating audio materials into English language teaching is one of the most effective ways to develop listening comprehension, pronunciation, intonation and overall communicative competence. The article considers the following types of audio materials namely: podcasts, dialogues, audio books, and films/series without video which train understanding of complex speech situations. The use of the LMS Moodle system is described which allows you to design interactive content that includes videos, presentations, games, tests, forms, tasks, etc. Modern digital technologies help to increase motivation and improve the effectiveness of their educational activities. The possibilities of the learning management system together with interactive resources are highlighted, which allows for the intensification of students' independent work, ensures effective monitoring of learning, and thereby achieves a high level of training. Video materials are one of the most effective tools for formation of foreign language competence as they ensure: authenticity of speech; multimodal learning; increased motivation and contextual acquisition of vocabulary and grammar. The article characterizes types of video content for learning: authentic videos; educational videos; social networks and student video projects. Video material – based exercises and tasks are presented/. The advantages of audio and video materials in English language teaching are outlined and presented in a table.
